I wanted to write few paragraphs but decided against it (what kind of weirdo writes about text editors). So, i am posting my reasons in this small bullet list.
why Helix?
I like modal editing.
I like scope -> action editing. I don’t mind action -> scope but former is better.
why not Vim?
I don’t need to stray away too much from the default experiences of neovim or vim. So, neovim being more customizeable is pointless to me.
Configuration is hard. I somehow managed to configure my neovim to be slow on windows and didn’t want to debug it. Same config was fine on linux. idk.
why not vscode?
idk. i still use it with “Dance” extension but i am on terminal more often so helix.
problems not yet fixed
still have not managed to get devanagari support on terminals. a font exists but i don’t want to lose my monospace font and for some reason i cannot get fallback font to work so no devanagari ig.
currently i use default text editors that are pre-installed for devanagari.
